{"id":1363,"date":"2019-08-07T11:41:04","date_gmt":"2019-08-07T15:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phillipsfoods.missionmedia.net\/?p=1363"},"modified":"2022-05-23T15:37:33","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T19:37:33","slug":"fishery-improvement-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phillipsfoods.com\/sustainability\/fishery-improvement-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Fishery Improvement Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Structure of Sustainability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) brings together\nmultiple fishing stakeholders (fishers, managers, researchers, funders, NGOs)\nto improve overall fishery management and ensure sustainable practices. They\ndraw upon market forces (including suppliers, retailers, food service, and the\nfishing industry) to motivate improvements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve Phillips initiated and funded the Indonesian Crab Producers Association (APRI) to manage the first Blue Swimming Crab (BSC) FIP in 2007. APRI completed the first BSC stock assessment in Southeast Asia later that year. Following in the footprints of APRI, in 2010 Steve also initiated and helped fund PACPI, the BSC FIP management company for the Philippines. Once the NFI Crab Council was formed, Steve enlisted their support to help initiate and fund BSC FIPs in Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img Non-Government Organizations such as the NFI Crab Council and World Wildlife Fund, which provide much of the funding for FIPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img
